Throwing another tranny in there without diagnosing the original cause and you may be buying yet another. I wanted the red channel to be more open and also when backing the gain down not get super bright. I don't want to mess with a double sided board. Changed out R36 resistor to 15k, jumped C22 and left C19 stock. The input and output boards was a lot easier and parts were only soldered on one side still
It did make the lead channel sound similar to the green channel, but it introduced odd gain, sounded like I was using an MXR Distortion Plus! As soon as I fired up the amp again, the gain channel was back to normal, nice, smooth - but bright and thin compared to the clean.
So I have a DSL and I've decided I want to try the c12 mod to take some of the bite out I have an 06' UK DSL and it rocks the way it is.

The red channel with the switch in sounds like mush to me I know a lot of people like it but I do not.
In Marshall took note of the problem and started making all post Valve PCB boads out of good glass fiber and also made some changes to the circuit layout in the preamp section. Hey Mike, I wanted to give you an update and I would totally recomend this after trying a couple different values.
So anybody doing this I would say If I hold one lead on the white I get 40 from brown and 78 from red. Cheers, Mike.
The 1st Marshall Lead. Vintage Modern mods the old Marshall DSL heads C12 cap mod. I just removed it on the marshall forum they said to pull it but maybe tonight I'll try. Sounds like an easy mod I could perform on my DSL
JasonP messaged me about this post at the metro forum. Jason, Did you do all of the mods yourself?
OT Mounting. I would still check the "bad" tranny in one of your amps. This seemed to address the issues with thermal runaway bias problem many where having.

That being said the clean was to die for and I still miss that. I took it off this time for some reason and did not leave it attached to the tube board as I had the 1st time. More gain and like the voicing of the amp more like this.
My old man is a television repairman, he's got this ultimate set of tools! Really took this amp up a step in my opinion. Now when backing the gain down it goes from aggressive to compressed.
